Mazzy Star bestod av sångerskan Hope Sandoval och en snubbe vid namn David Roback som frontfigurer. Hope skrev de flesta texterna och David skrev musiken. Hope Sandoval har fortsatt en karriär efter Mazzy Star upplöstes genom bildandet av Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions. Musiken kan beskrivas som lugn neo-psykedelisk och hypnotisk.
